Description

The final capstone is a culminating project that utilizes a set of skills that demonstrate maturity and professionalism in terms of strategic thinking in healthcare informed by an understanding of data, technology, new models of care delivery, and value-based payment.

Competencies & Outcomes

 

As a result of completing this program, students will be able to:

 

1.      Assess and implement new models of health optimization and the opportunities afforded by emerging technology.

2.      Demonstrate leadership and communication skills that can be used to establish professional relationships with project stakeholders.

3.      Demonstrate the use of quantitative and qualitative tools and methods to evaluate and present health care data.

4.      Determine and implement effective strategies for managing patient safety and security risks in health information systems.

5.      Develop a needs assessment and design an intervention that meets the identified needs.

6.      Evaluate and apply models of care delivery and payment innovation along with changes to healthcare systems, processes and strategies that can be adopted by clinicians and staff to positively impact patient care.

7.      Evaluate and manage financial risk of various health care payment arrangements and understand the impact on risk to health care providers and payers.

8.      Manage and cultivate ethical, intercultural relationships within organizations, clients and stakeholders

 

In HCS 700, students will be required to demonstrate mastery of these program competencies. Students will also submit a Capstone Project and Presentation that will serve as a summative assessment for one or more of their program competencies.

·        Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the research process by successfully executing an independent research project.

Skills

·        Apply strategic and creative skills to the development of an integrated research plan and presentation.

·        Cultivate project management skills through the design and execution of the capstone project.

·        Apply persuasive presentation and selling skills in the delivery of the final project presentation.

·        Develop executive skills through collaboration with the course instructor and any outside stakeholders/resources.

Attitudes

·        Demonstrate the ability to professionally develop, research, analyze and reach conclusions about a topic of interest drawing from classes and experiences across the Healthcare Management program.
